Easter Eggstravaganza
The Akaroa Community Arts Council have been running the Easter Eggstravaganza for the last 4 years due to popular demand. Held on Easter Sunday, this is when we invite the younger members of the community to exchange their decorated eggs for one of the chocolate or candy variety. There are hard boiled eggs to decorate, pictures of Easter images to paint, egg and spoon races, as well as the opportunity to have faces painted by an outstanding artist. All free, although donations are welcomed.
Easter Eggstravaganza is usually held outside the Toy Library on Rue Lavaud at 2.00pm. Check the Calendar tab for this years date.
ArtXpress Classes
This affordable art class tutored by local artists, is designed to encourage and develop the individuals creativity whilst investigating different mediums. No classes available at the moment due to lack of funding.
Montana Poetry Day
This nationwide event sponsored by Montana Wines coincides with the Montana book awards. ACAC has supported this event by hosting poetry readings and producing a book of local poetry – “Poetry – Akaroa Style”. Last held here in 2009, the poetry book also contained sketches, paintings and drawings by local artists to depict the poems therein.
Harp & Flute Concert
On Sunday 9th November 2008 we held a convert at the Gaiety Theatre. “An oasis of beautiful music… all brilliantly played by Anthony Ferner and Helen Webby. This duo is impressive for Ferner’s full, breathy tone and tight articulation pitted against the clear resonance of Webby’s expansive playing”... “intensely musical, stylish and absorbing” Helen Webby & Anthony Ferner .
ArtSpot is an exhibition held twice a year, when a topic is chosen and everyone is invited to investigate, expand and develop their creativity. All mediums are represented from painting, sketching and collage to photography, knitting, woodwork and sculpture. Artists can sell their work if they wish or just enjoy seeing it on display. Local visitors to the exhibition are often inspired to explore their own creativity, whilst the opportunity to enjoy the work of others and maybe grab a bargain at the same time is welcomed by all. ArtSpot is usually held at St. Peters Supper Hall (around the back of the church) in Rue Balguerie, from 10.00am until 4.00pm on specific weekends. See the Calendar tab for details of the next one. Entrance is free. Donations welcomed!.
